Britain has been paying bribes to Libyan officials at Tripoli airport to pave the way for the evacuation of British citizens from the country.
Senior government figures confirmed that payments had been made, in an apparent breach of strict British government anti-bribery rules.

Reports say Saif al-Arab, Gaddafi’s youngest son, who was sent by his father to cooperate with Libyan security forces in the massive crackdown on pro-democracy protesters joined forces with the demonstrators on Thursday, while hinting that his father would commit suicide or flee to Latin America.
According to reports, Saif al-Arab had the backing of combat troops and had military equipment that were dispatched to the eastern parts of turmoil-hit Libya.
An unnamed source with connections to Libya’s strongman says Gadhafi knows he can’t retake the country with the 5,000 troops that are still loyal to him. So, to make his point and punish disloyal Libyans, he’s apparently ordered those soldiers to torch Libya’s oil fields and blow up pipelines to Mediterranean ports.
